Feed 10,000 Families Initiative: City of Refuge
Feed 10,000 Families, Give it Forward: City of Refuge, Atlanta, GA
Through a partnership with Turner Broadcasting Insider’s Advantage program and Boston Market, we started an initiative through our nonprofit branch RAISE Hope called Feed 10,000 Families. For this initiative, we had a launch at Turner and invited employees and their friends and families to buy Boston Market gift cards.
Normally, Turner employees get gift cards and other products at a discounted rate and can buy them for family and friends. But this year, the Turner family decided to do things a little differently and was generous enough to donate the cards to families living in homeless and domestic violence shelters all around the country. Last week, we had the opportunity to donate our first 50 cards to the homeless shelter and transitional housing program, Nicholas House.
Yesterday, we went downtown Atlanta to give out our second round of Give it Forward cards to City of Refuge. Just a few miles from the Georgia Dome and the World Congress Center, is a part of town rift with drugs, homelessness, and crisis. City of Refuge decided they wanted to be in the heart of where their people are.
City of Refuge provides 120 days of services and housing to homeless women and children through their program Eden Village. They have 40 individual units for women with children and 100 beds for single women. Through this program, the women are provided case management services, food services, daycare, GED classes, tutoring and after school programs, job training, medical care, and transition into permanent housing.
Our 150 Boston Market gift cards will be used a graduation present of sorts as the ladies graduate from the Eden Village program and are ready to transition into the rebuilding phase. We are so humbled and honored to be a part of this project!
Along with Eden Village, City of Refuge has a full kitchen that feeds those who are hungry and offers culinary classes, an on-site greenhouse, and a dance studio. Their services are exhaustive and amazing. Thank you again to City of Refuge for hosting us, the Turner Broadcasting family, and Boston Market for helping us Feed 10,000 Families!
